Rangers take 2-0 series lead with 4-3 win over Capitals

The New York Rangers held on for the win on Tuesday night.

They defeated the Washington Capitals 4-3 at Madison Square Garden as the game ended with Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin making a point-blank save on Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin off a goal-mouth scramble with Washington goalie Charlie Lindgren pulled for the extra attacker.

New York takes a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series with Game 3  Friday night at Washington's Capital One Arena at 7 p.m. ET

Vincent Trocheck and Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist each for the Rangers and Jack Roslovic and K'Andre Miller also scored. Zibanejad's and Roslovic's goals came on the power play and Miller's tally was shorthanded. Shesterkin made 23 saves.

Tom Wilson had a goal and an assist and Connor McMichael and Dylan Strome got the Capitals goals. Strome's and Wilson's goals were with the man advantage. Lindgren also made 23 saves.
