The Penn State football team has seen a few former quarterbacks hit the transfer portal this offseason. First, Christian Veilleux decided to look for his third college home. He left Pittsburgh to commit to Georgia State in the Sun Belt. Then, former Nittany Lion Ta’Quan Roberson entered the transfer portal leaving the UConn Huskies. On Wednesday, he announced that he found a new home with the Kansas State Wildcats, where he will join ex-Penn State WR Dante Cephas.

Ex-Penn State football QB teams up with ex-Nittany Lion WR in the portal

Ta’Quan Roberson entered the transfer portal on May 1, choosing to leave the school he has been with since the 2022 season, the UConn Huskies. Roberson transferred to UConn ahead of 2022 where he won the starting job. But on the second series of their first game against Utah State, he suffered a season-ending injury.

That didn’t stop Roberson from coming back last season and proving that he can be an effective starter in college football. In 2023, he appeared in 11 games where he threw for 2,075 yards, and 12 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. He also added 120 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Prior to his UConn days, he spent 2019 through 2021 with the Penn State football team in a reserved role. Now, he has found a new home with the Kansas State Wildcats where he will compete for a starting position in the Big 12. He will team up with ex-Penn State wide receiver Dante Cephas in Manhattan, KS.

Roberson connects with Cephas at Kansas State

While their paths never crossed in Happy Valley, Ta’Quan Roberson, and Dante Cephas will now be teammates. Both players know what it’s like playing in Beaver Stadium and playing for James Franklin.

Following the conclusion of the 2023 season and the Peach Bowl, Dante Cephas entered the transfer portal on January 3, 2024. It did not take the former Penn State football wide receiver long to find his new home with Kansas State. He made his commitment on January 20.

In his lone season with the Nittany Lions, Cephas accounted for 22 caches for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns. Now, he has the opportunity alongside Ta’Quan Roberson for a fresh start in 2024.
